Every
sport carries specific physical and psychological demands. Horse sport
is no exception, and perhaps even more unique than any other sporting
activity. Your team mate happens to be 1000 pounds of non-English speaking
power. Somehow, you have to communicate with your equine partner while
seeking to meet your sporting goals.
The soccer ball doesn’t care if you’re still thinking about
work or school. A pair of skis is not impacted by your fear of speed.
But a horse can and will respond to variations in your thoughts, feelings
and tension levels. Your responsibility as the leader of this team is
to know and manage yourself to make your relationship succeed.
Are you looking for an edge to achieve this challenge? Thinking Rider
services can assist you in reaching your riding potential. As a former
competitive rider myself, I know the special mental skills required
for horse sport.
Who uses Thinking Rider services?
The most common reason is performance enhancement. A dressage rider
who wants to learn to regulate her tension levels in order to respond
more accurately to her mount. The jumper rider who wants to eliminate
negative self talk to make his rides more consistent. The reiner who
uses imagery to better memorize her patterns and see herself achieving
success in the show ring.
Some riders may wish to resolve issues with their coaches, peers or
parents that seem to be interfering with their performance. Essentially,
anything that may compromise performance levels can effectively be dealt
with through sport psychology.
What type of services are available?
Varied services are available to meet the needs of individual riders
and groups of all horse sport disciplines. Click on the links below
to learn more about these services, as well as who has used Thinking
Rider services to further their mental training.
